Today is World's Turtle Day!!

So we would like to share with you some facts about these wonderful animals. Did you know that there are only 7 species of sea turtles and in the Azores we can see 5? Yes, it's true, the Azores are not only one of the best places in the world to observe cetaceans but also one of the places where we can observe 5 different species!!

Unfortunately all these species are threatened! From their illegal capture, to the destruction and loss of habitat, through the problem of plastics, these animals face very real dangers every day of their lives!

Plastics are one of the biggest problems these marine species face today. Many of them confuse plastics with some of their prey (jellyfish and jellyfish).

In order to contribute to the conservation of these animals, Picos de Aventura is one of the partner companies of the COSTA Project (COnsolidating Sea Turtle conservation in the Azores). This is a project in collaboration with the Archie Carr Center for Turtle Research at the University of Florida and the Department of Oceanography at the University of the Azores where our main objective is to help this research by collecting data and tagging sea turtles that are found in the waters near the Azorean archipelago.
