Among the most iconic thermal bathing spots in São Miguel are Poça da Dona Beija and Parque Terra Nostra, both located in the picturesque parish of Furnas.
Poça da Dona Beija is a charming spot with several natural iron-rich pools, perfect for both adults and children. In the municipality of Ribeira Grande, you can’t miss the Caldeira Velha Natural Monument—a true thermal refuge in the heart of the forest, where you can bathe in warm waters surrounded by lush endemic vegetation. The sensation is that of being in a natural paradise. The thermal waters maintain a temperature between 25ºC and 30ºC, perfect for a relaxing soak.
Also in Ribeira Grande, it’s worth visiting the Caldeiras Thermal Baths, nestled in a valley surrounded by Laurisilva vegetation. The blue-tinted thermal pool invites relaxation, with waters reaching about 30ºC. The site also offers volcanic mud massages—a unique experience that combines well-being and connection with the earth. Dating back to the 17th century, this place holds great historical and symbolic value for São Miguel.
Culture and Charm in Ponta Delgada
Strolling through Ponta Delgada is like diving into the history and identity of São Miguel. The streets of the historic center have a special charm and invite you to discover some of the island’s most emblematic landmarks.
