When talking about places to watch the sunset on the island of São Miguel, one of the most known places is the civil parish of Mosteiros. One of the most coveted spots to watch this phenomenal show is at Mosteiros Beach. Viewpoint of Grota do Inferno, Sete Cidades
The Viewpoint of Grota do Inferno, also known as Viewpoint of Boca do Inferno, is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Azores. In fact, its unique and beautiful panoramic view is often used to promote the destination. It is one of the hallmarks of the archipelago. This viewpoint is located in Sete Cidades.
From this point it is possible to observe four lakes simultaneously, Lagoa das Sete Cidades, Lagoa Rasa, Lagoa de Santiago and Lagoa do Canário. In addition, you can see part of the parish of Sete Cidades and Serra Devassa. At an altitude of 730 meters, you can still see the ocean above the mountains of the place. Viewpoint of Pico da Barrosa, Ribeira Grande
The Pico da Barrosa Viewpoint is located in Serra da Barrosa, in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo. This is a fantastic place full of nature, vegetation and animals, such as rabbits. This place offers wonderful and extensive views over various parts of the island, such as Lagoa do Fogo, Pico da Vara, Pico da Cruz and the crater of Lagoa das Sete Cidades. The interesting thing is that from this viewpoint you can enjoy the sunset that starts at Lagoa do Fogo and fades away at Lagoa das Sete Cidades. Certainly a memorable sight!
Viewpoint of Ponta do Escalvado, Ponta Delgada
Another magical place that we recommend to watch the sunset is the Miradouro da Ponta do Escalvado, located in the parish of Ginetes, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada. This is located on top of a cliff with about 150 meters of altitude. This place was once a whale watching spot.
You can expect a dazzling sunset overlooking the sea and a panoramic view over the coast of São Miguel Island, namely, Ponta da Ferraria and Mosteiros.
