March sightings

March, a month of pleasant surprises!

The month of April was also a month in which our resident dolphins, the Bottlenose and the Common dolphin, accompanied us in all our trips to the sea.

Large groups of bottlenose dolphins also appeared, as well the large migrator whales. The humpback whale was one of the migratory species in our sightings, but it has been shy, not wanting to present us with its jumps out of the water.

Still in the group of migratory species, we had a sighting of blue whale, but we are confident that more will appear in the coming months.

Our sperm whales were rarely seen this month. This does not mean that they are not here (don’t forget that they are one of our resident species) but as we are entering the time to see baleen whales, our observation effort goes to them.

What is not very common is the appearance of sea turtlesCaretta caretta) at this time of year. We usually start to see them in the summer, when the water is warmer, but this March we had the opportunity to see them a few times, which is always a pleasant surprise.
