It can be said that the most famous places to bathe are Poça da Dona Beija and Terra Nostra Park, in the parish of Furnas. The fact is that Furnas is one of the main hydropolises in Europe. Poça da Dona Beija is a beautiful space with several thermal pools for adults and children. Here you can enjoy fantastic baths with waters that are around 39ºC.
It is a true spa in the middle of nature. In this space there are some services, such as a souvenir shop, sale of water and soft drinks, changing rooms, bathrooms and locker rental. Entry is not free. For a more special experience, it is recommended to visit the space in the evening. Have you ever imagined being submerged by thermal waters and contemplating the stars?
Terra Nostra Park has a large thermal pool and two outdoor jacuzzis. This bicentennial park is, in fact, a large botanical garden, dating back to the time of the export of oranges from the Azores. The garden has several endemic species from the Azores, but also from other parts of the globe. You shouldn't miss walking through the garden, it's really worth it. It is recommended that you try the pool and jacuzzis. The water temperature varies between 35ºC and 40ºC. It is an experience to relax the body and mind. You will feel a sense of relaxation and well-being. Entry is not free.
In the municipality of Ribeira Grande, you will also find a piece of thermal paradise in the Natural Monument of Caldeira Velha. Here you will be able to bathe in the thermal waters and feel as if you were in the middle of a forest. The surrounding vegetation is exotic and exuberant. The water temperature is around 25ºC and 30ºC. Admission is only free for residents of the Green Island. It is recommended that you make a reservation in advance to visit the place.
Still in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, you will find the Termas das Caldeiras. They are found in a valley surrounded by species of Laurissilva forests. Its thermal water pool has a beautiful blue color and the temperature is around 30ºC. In this space you can also enjoy massages made with volcanic mud. A place that dates back to the 17th century and, therefore, has an important history for the Green Island. Entry is not free.
In the southwest of the Green Island, in Ginetes, are located the famous Termas da Ferraria. Here, in Ponta da Ferraria, you can bathe in the sea in natural pools formed by the contact between lava and sea water. This is a unique experience! The water temperature can reach up to 30ºC. To enjoy it, pay attention to the tide conditions. The ideal time is when the tide is medium or low. Thus, you can enjoy the water with a pleasant temperature. This experience is free.
However, in this place you will also find a thermal spa. A set of thermal water pools that can be enjoyed by adults and children. Here you will find a space to relax with health benefits, too. Thermal salt water with sulfur supports the treatment of some diseases. The space has changing rooms and a restaurant. Treatments and entry are not free.
